Contango is proud to announce the successful completion of its support for the major overhaul of the Sarir Oil Refinery, carried out in collaboration with our client, Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO). This significant achievement marks the refinery's successful return to full production capacity, reinforcing the reliability of one of Libya's key energy assets.
As part of the project, Contango assisted AGOCO by supplying critical spare parts and providing comprehensive technical support throughout the major overhaul. The scope of work covered a wide range of essential refinery equipment, including:
The overhaul was successfully completed on January 21, 2026, in accordance with the planned project schedule. Following completion, the refinery entered a comprehensive testing and evaluation phase to verify the integrity, safety, and operational readiness of all systems.
The successful completion of this major overhaul reflects the strong partnership between Contango and AGOCO, as well as the dedication of the engineering, maintenance, and operations teams involved in the project.
On February 4, 2026, full refinery operations officially resumed. Crude oil pumping to the processing unit began at 10:53 AM, marking the successful restart of the refinery after all technical tests were completed and operational performance was confirmed.
Throughout the project, the technical teams demonstrated exceptional commitment and professionalism while overcoming several unforeseen challenges. In addition to complex maintenance activities, the project faced harsh weather conditions, including severe sandstorms that required temporary suspension of work to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. Despite these challenges, the project was completed safely, efficiently, and without any reported incidents.
Restoring the Sarir Oil Refinery to full operational capacity contributes to strengthening Libya’s refining capabilities and ensuring a reliable supply of petroleum products.
